Waterloo Creek Cleanup
April 24, 2010

A Driftless Chapter Workday was held on the Waterloo Creek below Dorchester on Saturday, April 24, 2010. The Workday was part of an on-going effort to clean up debris in the state-owned wooded section below Dorchester that was heavily damaged during the floods of 2008. Ten intrepid Chapter members braved thunderstorms over the weekend and pitched in to help, all with their raincoats on! Everyone congregated on the porch of the old Red House to sit out one morning shower, but other than that much work was done in removing debris. The Chapter heartily thanks all those who have helped with this project both this year and last. Fisheries Biologist Bill Kalishek reports that sometime later this year heavy earth-moving equipment will be brought to the site by the DNR to remove the last of the very large structural fragments still embedded within and along the stream. We all look forward to the day when this beautiful section of the Waterloo Creek will once again revert to its pleasant and appealing status, and once again, we thank everyone for their supportive efforts.
